Why we do this
Feeding Phoenix started with kids. More than ten years ago, youth leaders in our neighborhoods began serving the families around them, and their service grew into everything on this site.
We are the hunger ministry of Creighton Community Foundation, and our motivation is not complicated. When Jesus looked at a hungry crowd, he did not hand the problem back to them. He turned to his followers and said, "You give them something to eat." He fed people as he reached them, and he never separated the two. We work in that pattern.
We start with food because food comes first. Before shelter, before work, before school, a household has to eat, and everything else in daily life is built on that floor. When food is settled, dignity has room to stand up. Parents can plan past Friday. Kids can think about something besides dinner. Neighbors have something to share instead of something to hide.
So the fruit we watch for is human: 3,500 households a year eating better, 900 neighbors volunteering beside us, kids who once received food now running distributions, and a neighborhood where asking for help costs less shame than it used to.
You do not need to share our faith to shop with us, volunteer with us, or stand in line with us. Everyone eats here, and everyone is welcome. That, too, is the point.
Feeding Phoenix is a program of Creighton Community Foundation, a nonprofit serving the Creighton corridor of east-central Phoenix since 2013. Meet the rest of the family at creightoncommunityfoundation.org.
